FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has described graduates from the FIFA Master, the course organised by the International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES), as "the future of sports."
Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony for the FIFA Master, held in Neuchatel on 12 July, 2008, Blatter joined high-ranking IOC Member Prof. Denis Oswald, who is also the director of CIES, in emphasising their ongoing commitment to education in sports management and in particular the FIFA-backed course.
Blatter said: "The 29 graduates that received their diplomas today have come from all over the world to attend the FIFA Master. They are the future of the sports industry, and it is with pride that I address them. Eight years ago this Master's was nothing but an idea. Having now developed it is now achieving its objective of providing the world of sport with talented and educated managers. I congratulate each and every one of them."
Oswald, as academic director of the course, oversees the overall quality and co-ordination of the academic teaching ensuring that the course covers a broad range of topics and sports.
He said: "The FIFA Master is a course that prepares talented people for a unique industry by covering not only different kinds of sports, but also studying many different aspects of sports. It is clear to see that the level of management needed in sports continues to grow and with each edition of the FIFA Master, Graduates demonstrate that they are prepared to take on this challenge."
Organised by the International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES) and endorsed by FIFA, the FIFA Master was created to promote management education within the sporting world.
The Graduation Ceremony followed the annual ‘FIFA Master Conference' held on July 11th. Over 150 representatives from the sports industry gathered in Neuchatel to hear this year's students present their final research projects. All of these projects are available through CIES.
The CIES is a private foundation created by FIFA, the University of Neuchatel and the City and Canton of Neuchatel and is based in Neuchatel, Switzerland. CIES aims to provide teaching, research and consultancy services to the international world of sport. The FIFA Master sits under the teaching pillar of the Centre. CIES President, Prof. Jean-Louis Juvet, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from De Montfort University, one of the FIFA Master's partner universities. Juvet has been President of CIES since 1996.
