The Cairo University, the largest university on the African continent, became the sixth partner of the CIES academic network. Founded in 1908, it currently numbers 12 faculties and institutes, and over 260,000 students.

CIES stressed its great satisfaction to start cooperating with such a renowned academic institution, in a country, birthplace of one of the most ancient civilisations in the world. "It is with pride that our centre enters into a partnership with the Cairo University to develop a sports management programme, designed for students of Egypt and its neighbouring countries. It is vital that sports administrators can evolve in an ever more complex environment, knowing how to conciliate the demands of the economy and of ethics" underlined Prof. Jean-Louis Juvet, CIES President.

On his hand, Prof. Hossam Kamel Mahmoud, Vice President of the University, looked forward to a collaboration that will, within the framework of the FIFA initiative "Win in Africa, with Africa", enable the students to get familiar with modern management tools whilst respecting the local economic, social, cultural and sporting particularities.

The first FIFA/CIES sports management course organised with Cairo University will begin in October 2008. It will consist of six modules, namely law, general management, finance, marketing, communication and event management.
