The first edition of the FIFA/CIES sports management course started in South Africa on September 25, 2007.
Organised in cooperation with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), based in Port Elizabeth, this programme offers an education in various key areas of sport today, such as law, finance, management, marketing, communication and event organisation.
Prof. Christo van Loggerenberg, vice-Dean of NMMU, and Prof. Jean-Louis Juvet, President of CIES, officially launched the first edition of the course. Among the guests of honour, were Jomo Sono, Phil Masinga and Mark Fish, ambassadors of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, who came to lend their support to an initiative, "essential for South Africa and the neighbouring countries".
Twenty-eight students are taking part in this first edition, which will end in June 2008. They are all proud to belong, from now on, to a wider network including fellow students and graduates from Argentina, Chile, Senegal and soon Egypt.
