FIFA is pleased to announce that adidas, the Official Sponsor, Supplier and Licensee of the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, is giving 100,000 footballs to the FIFA GOAL Programme. These balls will be allocated worldwide over a four-year period to promote the game in FIFA's most important development programme. The adidas sponsorship will consist of two types of extremely durable balls: the Fevernova™ Tri Lance, designed for use on all types of surface, and the rubber Fevernova™ Terrain, specifically designed for use on hard surfaces such as sand or stone. The renowned adidas company, which has been manufacturing footballs since 1963, is giving its backing in this way to FIFA's global football development drive, the GOAL Programme.

The main objective of the FIFA Goal Programme is to carry out tailor-made projects comprising the construction of headquarters, technical centres or football grounds. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter initiated the Goal Programme in 1999. By the end of 2002, some 117 national associations from all six confederations will have participated in it. The projects destined to benefit from the program are selected by the GOAL Bureau, based in Zurich, Switzerland, which is composed of six members of FIFA's Technical Committee, each representing one of the confederations. From July 2002 until December 2006, approximately 50 national associations will benefit each year from the generous support of adidas to GOAL.
