Education and awareness are key for injury prevention. Over the past two decades, FIFA has taken significant strides in this area, but unfortunately, injuries will always be part and parcel of football. They occur more frequently in younger players, however, with 80% of injuries occurring in players under the age of 24, and 44% of injuries occurring in players under the age of 15. Injury rates in the women’s game tend to be higher for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and concussions. Injuries can have a significant physical, emotional, psychosocial and financial impact on both the individual and the team. Despite our efforts to date, there is still much progress to be made, especially with continuous technological advancements. Injury prevention will therefore always be one of our main goals..
