Though 26, Meriel is the youngest of the three goalkeepers in the squad.

He started playing at the age of nine at highly regarded Tahiti club AS Venus. Five years later, he left his homeland to join the youth academy at French club SCO Angers, staying for three years in the north-western city. While in France, Meriel also played for US Jeanne d'Arc Carquefou competing in the lower leagues, before returning home at 18.

Upon his return home Meriel, like many of his national team colleagues, was forced to also focus on life outside football. With a bachelor in economy and administration, he works for consulting group KPMG as an auditor.

Lemaire currently turns out in the colours of AS Central Sport, the only squad member to do so.
