Severo Meza is the frontrunner to nail down the fiercely-contested right-back spot in the Mexican side. His speed, positional awareness and recent form have helped give him the edge over his rivals for a starting berth.

After several years of alternating between playing as a holding midfielder and in defence, it was only once Meza settled on the latter that coach Jose Manuel de la Torre called him into the national set-up to replace the off-colour Efrain Juarez as first choice right back.

The 26-year-old has been a permanent presence in the side ever since and memorably kept none other than Neymar quiet with a sensational display against Brazil.
