Faatiarau is yet another graduate of the Tahiti team which made a breakthrough appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup four years ago in Egypt. However, he will have mixed memories after suffering a heavy defeat against Brazil 2013 opponents Spain, and then being sent off in the second match against Venezuela.
A versatile player, Faatiarau is primarily a right-sided defender who is also capable of playing on the wings or at centre back. His main qualities are his speed, sense of anticipation and passing skills.
He made his national team debut only three months ago in March in a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Solomon Islands, before doubling his caps tally four days later against New Caledonia.
Faatiarau is a AS Tefana player through and through, having played for the top Tahitian outfit since he was a young boy. His years in the club’s senior team have yielded two national titles and four national cups.
