One of the side’s key members, Angelo Tchen is also one of Tahiti’s most experienced. Highly versatile, Tchen is comfortable in the centre of defence or on the left side of the backline where he featured throughout the team’s historic run to the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, which propelled them to the Festival of Champions for the first time.
Participation in the Brazil 2014 qualifiers was Tchen’s fourth FIFA World Cup™ tilt, dating back to 2001 when he was only 19. He featured in nine of Tahiti’s 11 matches in the most recent campaign.
A fleet manager by trade, Tchen is aiming to achieve a rare sporting feat in 2013. The 31-year-old is not only a member of the senior national team, but a key component of the Tahiti team which will host this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup; the first FIFA tournament to be held in a Pacific Islands nation. Tchen has already turned out in the colours of the Tiki Toa on the world stage having down so at Ravenna 2011. On that occasion he played in all three matches as Tahiti enjoyed another breakthrough moment in their football history.
Loyal throughout his long career to AS Tefana, Tchen has been rewarded down the years with won three league titles and three national cups. More recently he featured in last year’s OFC Champions League final, helping his side through to the finale with a double in the semi-final.
