Italy are the second national squad to arrive in Brazil ahead of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, having touched down at Rio de Janeiro’s Aeroporto Internacional at 5.45am on Monday 10 June.
The UEFA EURO 2012 runners-up are set to play a friendly against Haiti on Tuesday at the Sao Januario stadium in Rio, part of their preparations for their opening Brazil 2013 game on Sunday against Group A rivals Mexico at the Estadio do Maracana.
The Italians’ second group match will be against Japan on 19 June, in Recife’s Arena Pernambuco, while in their third encounter they meet host nation Brazil on 22 June at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
The FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 will be La Nazionale’s second appearance at the competition. Their first came at South Africa 2009, when they fell at the first hurdle in a group also containing eventual winners Brazil, USA and Egypt.
The first national squad to arrive in Brazil ahead of the Festival of Champions were Oceania champions Tahiti, who landed in Belo Horizonte on Friday 7 June.
