The captain of side that won Brazil's third global title at Mexico 1970 and an ambassador for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, Carlos Alberto Torres has proudly taken receipt of the first ticket for the opening match of the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013.
The presentation took place on Tuesday at the Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, where the former fullback was joined by FIFA Marketing Director Thierry Weil as FIFA ran through procedures for the opening of its Ticket Distribution Centres on Wednesday.
Over the next few weeks, thousands of fans from Brazil and all over the world will collect their FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 tickets from the centres, which will be open for business seven days a week from 10am to 6pm in the competition’s six host cities.
Joined at the launch by his son Alexandre Torres, himself an ex-footballer, Carlos Alberto could barely conceal his delight at being the first person to clutch a ticket for this year’s Festival of Champions.
“I feel nervous about it to tell you the truth,” said Carlos Alberto. “It’s a great honour for me to be the first Brazilian to receive a ticket to a FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 match. The competition is approaching fast and I’m delighted to see that all the preparations have been made to welcome the thousands of fans who will be coming to the country.”
Weil said that more than 640,000 tickets have already been sold for the FIFA Confederations Cup and explained the process for collecting them. He added that every fan attending matches at the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will sit in numbered seats.
“Numbered seats are not used very much in Brazil,” said the FIFA Marketing Director. “It should be pointed out that tickets for the Confederations Cup will give fans all the information they need to locate their seat without any difficulty. By arriving early and making use of precise information to find their seats, fans can really make the most of their time in the stadiums.”
Meanwhile, the sale of tickets for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 will resume online and at FIFA’s Ticket Distribution Centres at 10am on Saturday 1 June.
