The positions of teams in the two first-round groups of the FIFA/Confederations’ Cup are determined as follows:
- Number of points gained in the three matches (3 for a win,1 for a draw)
- Difference between goals scored and goals conceded
- Number of goals scored
- Result of direct match between the teams concerned
- Drawing of lots.
In the semi-finals and final, a match which is drawn after 90 minutes will go to extra time (2x30 minutes maximum). The team scoring the first goal in extra time will be the immediate winner of the match. If no goal is scored in extra time, the match will be decided by a series of penalty-kicks.
If the match for third place is a draw after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time and the match will be decided immediately by penalties.
