Karembeu to join Russia 2017 celebrations

On Wednesday 3 February 2016, the 500-day countdown to the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 gets underway. A special event to celebrate the date at the presentation hall of GUM department store on Red Square in the heart of Moscow will culminate in the unveiling of the emblem for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017.

Christian Karembeu – winner of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2001, as well as the 1998 FIFA World Cup™ and 2000 UEFA EURO with France – will be one of the honoured guests at the celebration, along with football fans, Russian artists and celebrities. The Confederations Cup trophy will be exhibited in GUM department store throughout the event.

Some of the world's best international teams will come to Russia in the summer of next year to compete in the 'Festival of Champions', including already qualified continental champions Australia, Chile and Mexico, besides hosts Russia and the current FIFA World Cup™ champions, Germany. Three other continental champions, from Oceania, Europe and Africa, will also join the competition, which will take place in Russia for the first time.

The tournament will feature 16 matches, played in Kazan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Sochi from 17 June to 2 July 2017.
