Nigeria-Spain: Quotes

Stephen Keshi, Nigeria coach
If we coolly analyse the game, then 3-0 is a harsh result, but this is football and these things happen. I think that we suffered from nerves in front of goal. The good thing is that we created chances, even if we couldn’t take them. That’s something we need to work on and I hope we see an improvement soon. In the first half we were well set-up, but once their second goal went in we fell apart and lost our shape. We lost our concentration and at this level you pay dearly for that.

Vicente del Bosque, Spain coach
We were up against very good opponents and, what’s more, the heat was incredible. Fortunately, the lead we opened up in the second half put us in a more comfortable situation and meant we could conserve our efforts a bit. We knew that Nigeria play a very dynamic and pleasing brand of football, that they wouldn’t dwell on the ball in midfield and they’d try to win the game. We’re fortunate enough to have very technically gifted players, who can help us conserve energy in these kinds of situations. Now’s the time to get some rest and then tomorrow we’ll start thinking about Italy.
