Cesare Prandelli, Italy coach
Brazil were very strong in the first half, too strong in fact. They pressured us in our half and didn’t let us get any moves going. And they’ve got four players up front who can take their chances just like that. They’re the strongest team along with Spain. We improved in the second half and we showed character and created a lot of good openings, especially down the flanks. I’m very pleased with the way we played in that part of the game. I’m happy because we showed some spirit, fought hard to turn the game around and gave Brazil problems. That’s the spirit I’m looking for.
Luiz Felipe Scolari, Brazil coach
This is a very important game we’ve won and it will give us confidence and bring us closer to the fans. But there are still some things to work on and we shouldn’t get carried away. This is all part of a process and I think it’s the right one. We’ve got a definite style of play, though there are still some areas where we can improve, like how we control the game when we’re in the lead. As for Fred, some people say he shouldn’t be in the team but he’s played seven games for me and scored seven goals. He’s always there and I couldn’t ask for more from him.
