Atletico Nacional have been crowned Copa Libertadores champions for the second time after a tense second leg finally ended the fairytale run of Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle on Wednesday, with the result also earning the Colombians passage to the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016.

In-form striker Miguel Borja scored the only goal of the game after just eight minutes in Medellin as Atletico secured a 2-1 aggregate victory, thus ending a 27-year wait for the South American crown.

Last week’s opening leg in Quito ended 1-1 with the home side playing in their first continental final following a dream run, having never won a domestic league title.
