Corinthians striker Edilson was voted by the media as the best player in the first FIFA Club World Championship in Brazil.

The Brazilian receives the adidas Golden Ball award, traditionally given to the outstanding individual at every FIFA tournament. Edilson polled 221 votes.

In second place, and winner of the Silver Ball, was Edmundo of Vasco da Gama (189 votes), while his team-mate and fellow striker Romario finished third with 125 votes.

A total of 28 players were named in the voting, five of them from the winning team, Corinthians, and seven from Vasco da Gama.

Romario and Real Madrid’s French striker, Nicolas Anelka, shared the adidas Golden Shoe award as the top goal-scorers in the Championship.

Anelka and Romario each registered three goals in the tournament.

The Bronze Shoe was also shared, by Edilson and Edmundo with two goals and one assist each.
