We won the Japanese championship last Saturday and took a little time to celebrate our historic triumph. That meant we didn't have long to prepare for this tournament and we weren't in a position to perform at our usual best. We can play a lot better, although we did control the game for long periods. We misplaced a lot of passes and we weren't clinical enough on the counter either. Still, our aim was to win the match and we've done that. Now we need to focus on preparing for our next game against Monterrey, for which we're going to need a vast improvement.

Congratulations to Kashiwa Reysol, they won the game deservedly. We put in a good performance, even if the result didn't go the way we would have liked. Still, it was a good experience for my players. We normally play in an amateur league, so we can learn a lot from playing at this level. We had a few problems from set-pieces, but otherwise I thought we coped well. In the second half we took more risks but unfortunately we weren't rewarded with a goal. Credit to the lads for fighting until the final minute. Hopefully we can come here again next year with more experience.
