Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United coach
The fans got their money's worth today. Gamba really played well, I was impressed. They have a talented team and proved that Japanese football is getting better and better. Gamba surprised us with their formation and caused us a few problems until we adapted a bit better to them. It was a great match and the score could have been even higher by the final whistle. Edwin van der Sar made a couple of saves and we also had countless opportunities that we couldn't convert. I'm very pleased that we've made it to the final, but we will be facing a stern test, as Liga de Quito are very strong defensively. It's never easy against South American teams.
Akira Nishino, Gamba Osaka coach
We played very well and controlled the match for certain periods. Unfortunately, we then let in two very avoidable goals at precisely the wrong moment, simply because we weren't paying enough attention during two innocuous situations. My players never gave up though, they really gave Manchester United a tough time and managed three goals of their own. It was obviously an entertaining match for the spectators, but I can't be happy with the result because we lost. Wayne Rooney was the one we really didn't get to grips with.
