The "Do you remember...?" section of FIFA.com became a veritable platform for former stars this year, as people wondered what had become of the FIFA World Cup™ winners, the heroes and the characters of the past. FIFA.com caught up on a regular basis with various former superstars, looking back on their incomparable careers and discussing the new challenges that the one-time pros are now tackling.
Players from all six confederations have sat down for a chat over the past 12 months, regaling us with tales of FIFA World Cup finals, happy and sad memories and also what they have been doing since hanging up their boots.
Toni Schumacher got the ball rolling in mid-January. The former top-class Germany goalkeeper who has since gone on to become head of a sports marketing agency was only too pleased to talk us through the FIFA World Cup final phases of 1982 and 1986.
The next participant was all the way from Oceania, New Zealand to be precise. Wynton Rufer was another player with FIFA World Cup memories to share and let us in on a little secret about who his favourite coach was throughout his career. Argentina's Jorge Valdano meanwhile, who won the FIFA World Cup in 1986 in Mexico, opened his heart regarding the biggest challenge that he had faced during his playing days.
FIFA.com was also fortunate enough to interview some of the biggest stars that Asian football has had to offer, including Korea's Seo Jung-Won, China's Yang Chen and Saudi legend Sami Al Jaber. The USA was not left out either, with genial former international goalkeeper Tony Meola and Jeff Agoos both happy to oblige.
With the next FIFA World Cup being held for the first time in Africa, we obviously took the opportunity to catch up with some of the continent's biggest former stars, including Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia), Roger Milla (Cameroon) and Emmanuel Amunike (Nigeria), to name but a few.
Browse through "Do you remember...?" with FIFA.com and take a trip back through the history of football in the company of some of the greatest players the game has produced.
