  • In 1938 the Stade Velodrome was used for only two games. Sixty years later, in 1998, it hosted no less than five matches.
  • Floodlight failure halted a 1991 Marseille v AC Milan European Cup tie with two minutes to go. Milan trailed 1-0 and refused to reappear.
  • Throughout the Velodrome’s reconstruction prior to France 98, at least 25,000 spaces were kept open for Olympique de Marseille games.
  • Evening fixtures were made possible at the Velodrome in 1958 when floodlights were finally fitted along the side stands at the venue.
  • The Velodrome originally featured an athletics/cycling track and a football pitch. All three sports marked the stadium’s opening in 1937.
