Alan Kennedy and Phil Neal rate as living legends to fans of famous Premier League club Liverpool. In the 1970s and 80s, the Reds full-backs collected multiple honours both at home and in Europe.
Exactly 29 years ago today, the long-serving pair and their team-mates beat AS Roma on the Italians’ home patch in the final of the European Cup, the fourth of Liverpool’s five triumphs in the continent’s elite club competition.
Kennedy and Neal were naturally defensive specialists, but both proved adept at scoring vital goals from time to time, especially in Europe. Interviewed by FIFA.com, the pair recalled an era of enormous success for the club, and relived in more detail the European Cup finals of 1977, 1981 and 1984.
