FIFA has reacted with sadness at the news of the death of adidas Head of Global Sport and Brand Relations Michael Riehl on Sunday. Mr Riehl, who came from Germany, was 56.
In a letter of condolence, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke and FIFA Marketing Director Thierry Weil said: “Words cannot express the sense of loss we feel at learning of Mike’s sudden death.”
They went on to offer his wife Ulrike their deepest sympathies. Mr Riehl was formerly a member of the FIFA Marketing and TV Committee.
In their letter the three FIFA executives said Mr Riehl would be remembered as a visionary leader by everyone who had had the opportunity to work with him:
“Knowing him personally, as we did over these last few years, we are very well aware of what he gave to people, both at the company for whom he worked and in his private life.”
