FIFA President Joseph F. Blatter has sent a letter to the president of the Saudi Arabian Football Association, HRH Nawaf Bin Faisal Bin Fahd Bin Abdulaziz, expressing his shock and profound sadness at the death of HRH the Crown Prince Nayef Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, deputy prime minister of the Gulf kingdom and its interior minister since 1975.

The crown prince passed away on Saturday 16 June, in the Swiss city of Geneva, where he was receiving treatment for recent health problems.

The FIFA President wrote: “On behalf of all those members of the international football family who had the privilege of knowing HRH the Crown Prince and of respecting and trusting him, I would be most grateful if you would pass on our most sincere condolences to His Majesty, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, HRH King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to his family, friends and loved ones, and to all members of the Saudi Arabian Football Association.”

The FIFA President then added: “Today at our headquarters in Zurich, the FIFA flag will be flown at half-mast as a mark of our sympathy and respect for the Saudi people at this difficult time.”
