FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has issued a message of condolence to Angel Maria Villar Llona, President of the Spanish Football Association, following the death of Fernando Vara de Rey, former Vice-President of the FIFA Appeal Committee, member of the FIFA Legal Committee between 1990 and 1992, and part of the Spanish FA for 21 years.
“On behalf of FIFA and the international football family, I would like to extend our condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. The football community is with them at this painful time. It is our sincere desire that these words provide them with some form of comfort during this difficult period,” said the head of FIFA in his letter.
Born in Burgos on 12 July 1937, Vara de Rey was a lawyer and military man. He passed away on 18 July in Madrid at the age of 74.
