The seventh edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will get underway next Wednesday in Tahiti. And the first ever FIFA tournament to be held in a Pacific Islands nation is arguably the most open event since the inaugural edition in Brazil eight years ago.
As reigning champions Russia have highly credible claims for success in French Polynesia, while four-time world champions Brazil will be eager to regain their crown.
Elsewhere Argentina as the new kings of South America have aspirations of their own, as will Paraguay, Netherlands, Ukraine and Spain to name just a few.
Asia is represented by familiar faces in Japan and Iran, as well as United Arab Emirates.
Regular African kings Senegal will feature alongside Côte d'Ivoire, while USA and El Salvador will also offer stern opposition.
Local hopes are high after strong form from the team affectionately known as the Tiki Toa, while Solomon Islands are looking for a breakthrough showing in their fifth visit to the world stage.
