Who will succeed Cristiano Ronaldo, Hamit Altintop, Neymar and Miroslav Stoch as the fifth winner of the FIFA Puskás Award? That is a question that you, along with the users of francefootball.fr, can help answer by voting for your favourite goal of 2013 from a shortlist of the ten most spectacular strikes.
One of the contenders for the prize is Pachuca midfielder Daniel Luduena, who displayed both sublime skill and vision in scoring one of the goals of the year in a Mexican league match against Tigres in July 2013.
Picking up a loose ball in his own half, and with the score tied at 1-1 at the start of the second half, the Pachuca playmaker spun audaciously away from his marker and surged into space.
Assessing his options, with several team-mates breaking forward ahead of him, El Hachita (The Little Axe) looked up to see opposing goalkeeper Enrique Palos well off his line. Though Luduena was still a few yards inside his own half, there was no doubt in his mind as he let fly with his right foot, sending a superb long-range effort arrowing over Palos’ head and into the back of the net.
Not only did Luduena’s outrageous strike give Pachuca their second win in two games at the start of the 2013 Torneo Apertura, it was also an instant goal of the year contender and fully deserving of a place on the FIFA Puskás Award shortlist.
The question you have to answer is, does it rank as the best of 2013? To help you make your mind up, Luduena’s wonder goal is available for you to watch along with the other nine candidates at the FIFA channel on YouTube. Assess the merits of each one and then vote for your favourite here.
FIFA.com will continue presenting the year’s other top-ten strikes in alphabetical order over the next few days. The three goals receiving the most votes by 9 December will then go forward to the final round of voting, with the winner of the prestigious trophy announced at the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala on 13 January 2014.
