The unprecedented extent of the coverage confirms that the FIFA World Player Gala has gradually become one of the key events in the international football calendar.

"Universality is a principle that lies at the heart of our activities, so television is the best possible medium for ensuring that coverage of an event like this reaches football fans all around the world. I am delighted with the huge interest shown by broadcasters," commented FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
