Football is Tunisia's favourite sport. A non-amateur set-up has been introduced in the top two leagues, while all players in lowers divisions are amateurs. The national team has participated in the FIFA World Cup finals (1978, 1998, and 2002) and the Olympic Football Tournaments (1960, 1988, and 1996) on three occasions each. The Tunisians have also reached the Final of the African Cup of Nations twice (1965 and 1996), qualified for the FIFA World Youth Championship twice (1977 and 1985) and the FIFA U-17 World Championship once (1993). In 1978, Tunisia became the first African team to record a victory at the FIFA World Cup finals, 3-1 against Mexico, under the leadership of legendary coach Abdelmajid Chetali. In 1977, Tarak Dhiab won the African Ballon d'Or as the best player in the continent. Tunisia also hosted the inaugural FIFA World Youth Championship in 1977, organised the African Cup of Nations in 1965 and 1994 and will do so once again in 2004. This North African nation is also one of the six countries bidding to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
