Goal Programme - Chinese Taipei Football Association - 2003

In terms of popularity, football is behind both baseball and basketball in Chinese Taipei. However, womens football has enjoyed great success - the national team has won the AFC Womens Championship on three occasions (1977, 1979, 1981), finished as runners-up twice (1987, 1999) and third on a further two occasions (1991, 1995). No player from Chinese Taipei - whether male or female - has yet made the breakthrough into a professional league abroad. In 2004, the FIFA Futsal World Championship will take place in Chinese Taipei, already a hotbed for the game. Tournaments and courses for referees and coaches are already in place and will serve to increase the games popularity further.

On 22 October 2008 the Goal Bureau approved an amendment to a plan submitted in September 2004 to build a mini-training centre in Taichung. The new project provides for the purchase of office premises in the capital, Taipei, for use as the association headquarters in the future. This provides the association with its own offices for administrative purposes.
