Football in Sweden
With 230,000 amateur players and 300,000 young players, football is the most popular sport in Sweden, ahead of winter sports such as skiing and ice hockey. Women's football is particularly well developed, and there are 29,000 amateur players and more than 100,000 young players registered with clubs. The Swedish Football Association was established in 1904, but football arrived in the country in the 1870s.
