Football in Nepal
Football is by far and away the number one sport in Nepal. In recent years, the All-Nepal Football Association has celebrated several memorable successes. In 1999, the senior national team won the silver medal at the 8th SAF Games Football Tournament in Nepal. The U-16 team reached the final competition of the Asian Youth U-16 Championship for the very first time when the event was held in Vietnam in 2000. Furthermore, a Nepalese team won the football competition at the AFC U-14 Youth Festival on home soil.
The second Goal project
Following the construction of three regional training facilities under Project I, the second project submitted by the All-Nepal Football Association comprises a national technical centre offering accommodation for players and officials, a gymnasium, a recuperation zone, meeting rooms and classrooms, a medical centre, a kitchen and dining rooms, and - not to be forgotten - a training pitch. Situated in the west of Kathmandu, the complex will primarily be made available to football novices and emerging young talent. The association intends to hold regular, long-term training programmes there.
