Football in Nicaragua
In Nicaragua, baseball is all the rage. Although football is not far behind in terms of the number of men and women players, it cannot (yet) compete with Major League Baseball, which is directly supported by the USA. Success has been thin on the ground but the association is hoping that the Goal project and the application of long-term plans will continually inject new life into football.
Second Goal project
The associations second project - its very own football stadium in the capital, Managua - is a long cherished dream and was approved by the Goal Bureau on 17 February 2005 after intensive research. The arena initially to be built in the university grounds to accommodate 2,000 spectators and four teams, will first be equipped with a natural turf pitch and eventually serve as the national stadium. It is planned to expand capacity to 25,000 spectators in the near future and to install an artificial pitch. The realisation of the project and management of the stadium will be supervised by a body comprising representatives of the association, the university of Managua and the local authorities, who will help to finance it along with funds from Goal.
