Goal Programme - Namibia Football Association - 2008

Football is clearly the number one sport in Namibia, a fact that was recently confirmed by the National Sports Commission. The national team (the Brave Warriors) enjoyed their greatest day when it qualified for the finals of the African Cup of Nations in 1998, held in Burkina Faso. They also reached the Final of the COSAFA (confederation of South African football associations) Cup in 1997 and 1999. Countless players have earned transfers to clubs in Southern Africa, while a number have also plied their trade on a different continent. The most famous are Mohamed Ouseb (Kaiser Chiefs, South Africa; Lyn Oslo, Norway), Collin Benjamin (Hamburger SV, Germany), Razundara Tjikuzu (Werder Bremen/Hansa Rostock, Germany), Eliphas Shivute (Motherwell, Scotland; Pingan Schenzen, China), Oliver Risser (Borussia Dortmund, Germany), and Quinton Jacobs (Partick Thistle, Scotland; MSV Duisburg, Germany).

The Namibian FA's second project concerns the laying of an artificial turf pitch at the Windhoek football complex and was approved by the Goal Bureau on 4 February 2008. The Namibian Soccer House has been equipped with dressing rooms and security fencing, thus providing optimum conditions for the implementation of development programmes, particularly for youngsters.
