Football in Saint Lucia
Football is easily the number one sport in Saint Lucia. Thanks to the funding provided by FIFA through its Financial Assistance Programme, the association has been able to establish a permanent administration. In recent years, Saint Lucia have consistently participated in the later stages of Caribbean qualifying rounds in CONCACAF tournaments such as the Gold Cup, and they have several players in professional leagues abroad, both within CONCACAF and beyond. And now, with a gentle shove in the right direction, there is a palpable sense that it will be possible to achieve more.
The Goal Project
At its meeting on 15 October 2003, the Goal Bureau approved the construction of a technical centre at Union, outside the capital Castries, comprising one natural turf pitch with a security fence, artificial lighting, and a grandstand with offices and changing rooms. This project will be the association's first independent operating base, serving as a technical centre for football development at all levels (national teams, youth etc.).
