Football in Dominica
Football is by far and away the number one sport on the tiny island of Dominica. The national association is extremely active and, together with FIFA and the Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee, holds regular courses for coaches. Many projects in youth football are also in the pipeline. But despite all of their efforts, success has not come the way of Dominica. But with sustained development work, it is hoped that this will soon change - at least on a local level.
The first Goal Project
The association's new headquarters in Roseau, financed by Goal and the FIFA Financial Assistance Programme, opened their doors on 28 December 2003. The new home of the association is the epicentre of footballing activities in this Caribbean nation. Staff who had previously worked in cramped offices now enjoy a much-improved working environment. «The Dominica Football Association believes that all areas of football, both on and off the pitch, as well as at youth and women's level, will benefit from our Goal project,» enthused the association's president, Patrick R. John. The new headquarters are known as the «House of Football».
