Football in Cyprus
Football is clearly the number one sport in Cyprus. While the national team has not enjoyed any success of note, the national association has gained an excellent reputation by organising various FIFA/UEFA events (tournaments, courses, meetings). The national team often surprises many observers by defeating higher-ranked countries, mostly on home soil.
The Goal Project
On 22 September 2004, the Goal Bureau approved the purchase of a building to be used as association headquarters together with adjoining land. The Cyprus Football Association will thus have an improved working environment, making for increased efficiency in its administration. This major project was financed not only by Goal, but also by UEFA's HatTrick programme and the association's own coffers.
