Football in Cambodia
Football is without doubt the number one sport in Cambodia. The national team celebrated its greatest triumph in 1972 by reaching the semi-finals of the Asian Cup. Political problems in the country then prevented football from being developed properly. Commendable results achieved in the South East Asian Games in Jakarta in 1997 and at the Tiger Cup in Thailand in 2000 have raised hopes for a brighter future.
Second Goal project
The revised Football Federation of Cambodia project, which was approved by the Goal Bureau on 4 February 2008, involves the construction of four regional football centres that will each consist of a pitch, an office building, two dressing rooms and a multi-purpose room. The centres will be spread out across the whole country. The centre in Kep City will also have accommodation facilities for up to 50 people.
