Football in the Bahamas

The first Goal Project
This academy, opened by Jack Warner, FIFA vice-president, on 16 February 2002, was the first project to be completed in the region. It is now the base for all of the development initiatives of the Bahamas Football Association. The impeccably maintained facilities mainly play host to gatherings of the best U-9 to U-15 players (boys and girls), training sessions of the different national teams, and matches in the top domestic championships. Further extension work is planned with the construction of changing rooms and offices, and the erection of floodlights. Temporary seating has also been installed. The academy has helped to raise the profile of football in the Bahamas. The number of players, both male and female, is constantly on the increase, while new championships, particularly in youth football, have been launched.
