Short Description:
Since its registration in February 2001, Magic Bus has been successful in transforming itself from an individual's idea into a sustainable organisation. With 3,500 children per annum on its programmes, an employee base of over 50 people and approximately 240 volunteers, the organisation is playing an important role in developmental work in disadvantaged children's lives in the greater area of Mumbai, India. Magic Bus programmes provide activity-based learning to its participants through four main pillars: Sports Development, Outdoor Learning, Creative Expression and Work Based Learning.

Target Group:

  • Underprivileged girls and boys aged 9-14

Thematic Field(s):

  • Children's Rights & Education
  • Anti-discrimination & Social Integration

Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope Movement:
The Football for Hope supported project "Magic Bus Sport for Development" consists of the development, documentation and piloting of the curriculum that they have developed to serve underprivileged children (girls and boys aged 9-14) in a large slum of Mumbai, as well as of the development of a "train-the-trainer" programme to enable the Magic Bus programme to be taken to other cities across Asia. Magic Bus works through/with community intervention (with CBOs), municipal schools, various specialised institutions, and NGOs. Children are trained to participate in football at various levels, on a non-discriminatory basis, involving regular football sessions, competitions, day trips, and learning camps. The participating children are actively involved in the planning and leadership of the activities, under supervision of so-called mentors, who act as coaches, educators and adult role models.
