Basic Information
- Founded in: 1996
- Located in: Kigali, Rwanda
Short Description:
The ethnic groups of Rwanda today still struggle with the sad
legacy of the 1994 genocide. In the search for justice and peaceful
coexistence, Espérance seeks to fight the ethnic divide of the
Rwandan population through education and social programs,
establishing in 2002 the program "Football for Peace".
The streetfootballworld network member (since 2002) uses football
as a tool not only to reconcile differences within the population,
but also to make aware dire issues, which deeply affect the
communities and youths. Football tournaments are run in conjunction
with AIDS awareness activities. Over 300 youths are trained on the
football field each year and many more partake in other activities
run by the organisation. The youths are not just educated; rather
they are trained to be educators themselves.
Target Group:
- Youth between the ages of 8-19 years
Thematic Field(s):
- Peace Building
- Health Promotion
- Children's Rights & Education
- Anti-discrimination & Social Integration
