Short Description:
Born out of the violence of Medellín, the project Fútbol por la Paz has established football as a key to building peace amidst the conflict in Colombia. Following the success of the local project, the mission of Con-texto Urbano is to expand and improve mechanisms for youths to participate in the development of the country. Projects are carried out in both urban and rural areas with the intention of recovering unused public spaces for youths to gather and play football. As football offers many alternatives, the idea is to create a game in which the participants develop their own rules and jointly decide how they would apply in competitions. Con-texto Urbano, a streetfootballworld network member since 2002, uses football as an interventional tool in resolving community conflicts. The project is designed to consolidate peaceful coexistence, promote tolerance and encourage peaceful means of conflict resolution.

Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope Movement:
Football for Hope is supporting the Colombian network for Development through Football recently initiated by Con-texto Urbano. Through this network they will expand and strengthen the social street football community in Colombia. The network will also create a unique platform to exchange and share ideas and experiences within the field of 'Development through Football'. Con-texto Urbano will lead and coordinate the network, with the aim to introduce and distribute its expertise in social intervention methodology and to establish the national network as a space of mutual encounter and learning for NGOs active in the field of Development through Football.
