Short Description:
CHIGOL is a street football project which utilises the
"Fútbol Callejero" (Street Football) method as a means
for social intervention. "Fútbol Callejero", a concept
used by various organisations within the streetfootballworld
network, tries to tap the full potential of football by applying
special rules and rituals to the game. CHIGOL, a
streetfootballworld network member since 2005, aims at fostering
the social integration of the people in the neighbourhood. It seeks
to recapture abandoned public spaces in order to create a domain
for youths to come together and explore their talent and potential.
With the newly utilised public spaces, the streets carry a much
more benign and peaceful demeanour. The project's aim is to
improve the quality of life of its participants through a leisure
activity that allows them to develop their identity, their sense of
social affiliation, and their potential for peaceful co-existence
and conflict resolution. Youths with leadership skills are
encouraged to gradually lead activities and expand the street
football programme. The organisation also cooperates with schools
in the area in order to synchronise their educational methods on
the fields and within classrooms.

Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope
Movement:
The Football for Hope supported project aims at creating the
Chilean Street Football League "CHIGOL". It is planned to
form groups in schools and neighbourhoods throughout the country
that will then implement the methodology "Fútbol
Callejero" (Street Football). The programme kicks off with a
clean-up session at the future football pitch together with
committed people and organisations from the community. This is
followed by weekly training sessions and, as contact to the
participants increases, the selection of leaders for capacity
building courses in order to become official "monitors"
of the programme. The climax of the programme's activities will
be national and international street football encounters.
