Basic Information
- Founded in: 2003
- Located in: Skopje, FYR Macedonia
Short Description:
The war in the former Yugoslavia since the beginning of the
90's has left its evident marks on all different populations in
the region. With this recent and painful memory in mind, Balkan
Friends stands behind a great effort to bring together different
nationalities, ethnicities and religions after many years - with
street football being the main catalyst for success. The objectives
of the streetfootballworld network member (since 2005) are simple
but of immeasurable value: to bring smiles back on children's
faces, provide hope, relieve post-war emotional stress and
ultimately offer participants a window with a view to a brighter
future.
Target Group:
Socially deprived kids of both genders, aged 8-14 and coming
from all nationalities in Skopje.
Thematic Field(s):
- Children's Rights & Education
- Health Promotion
- Peace and Reconciliation
Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope
Movement:
In 2005, Balkan Friends received funding from FIFA towards
the organization of a street football tournament in Skopje, which
also served as the platform for the selection of the team which
represented the region in the streetfootballworld festival 06 in
Berlin. One year later, the project took part in a coaching process
with the other Balkan-affiliated project, Football Friends from
Serbia - once again financially supported under the Football for
Hope Movement umbrella.
