FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has today led the tributes to a fellow sporting governing body as the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) celebrates its centenary.

Four years on from FIFA's own centennial festivities, President Blatter joined former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch, IIHF President Rene Fasel and artist Rosa Serra at the IIHF headquarters in Zurich to unveil a striking ice hockey-themed sculpture that Serra has created in honour of the organisation's 100th anniversary.

The event is the highlight of the IIHF's three-month-long 'Ice Time' in Zurich, and with both these international federations coming together in friendship, it has been considered only fitting that there should be some sporting combat to mark the occasion.

Indeed, just as the IIHF recently gave up the ice to take part in a challenge football match, FIFA have committed to returning the compliment by putting together a team to take on their ice hockey counterparts later this evening on the IIHF's own centennial ice rink.
