FIFA President meets Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani

His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani met this evening with FIFA President Blatter, who is visiting Qatar at the invitation of HH the Emir. During the one hour meeting at the Al Bahr Palace, HH the Emir reviewed existing relations of cooperation between the State of Qatar and football's world governing body and looked at ways of enhancing them further. Additionally, the two discussed a wide range of topics, particularly with regards to the preparations for the organisation of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, the development of football in the region and the ongoing reforms of labour rights to ensure the welfare of migrant workers. The meeting also reviewed the achievements accomplished on projects related to the organisation of the tournament.

President Blatter expressed his pleasure to meet HH the Emir and said: "I was very pleased to meet today the highest political authority – the Emir of Qatar. It was great to see his and Qatar’s commitment to use the 2022 FIFA World Cup to achieve positive social change and to promote the host country and region. Qatar takes its responsibility as hosts seriously. We also discussed the importance of further developing football in the region.”  The meeting was also attended by HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Personal Representative of the HH the Emir, and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke.
