On Tuesday 6 May a Barcelona delegation headed by the club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, made a courtesy visit to FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter at the headquarters of world football’s governing body in Zurich.

Tuesday’s meeting was the first between Blatter and his Barcelona counterpart since the latter took over at the head of the Catalan club in January 2014. Both were agreed on the need for all the game’s stakeholders to work together for the benefit of football and its global appeal.

Issues relating to the protection of minors also came up for discussion at the meeting, although the conversation was largely general in nature, as the FIFA President has no part to play whatsoever in the decisions taken by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee or in the procedure relating to the appeal Barcelona have lodged.

Bartomeu was accompanied on his visit by Jordi Mestre, Barcelona’s Vice-President of Sport; Manel Arroyo, the club’s Vice-President of Communication and Media; and Raul Sanllehi, its Director of Football Management.

FIFA was represented for its part by its Director of Member Associations and Development, Thierry Regenass, as well as its Director of Communications & Public Affairs, Walter De Gregorio.
