FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter was made an honorary citizen of Sao Paulo on Monday 10 June 2013.

At a ceremony at the city council, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke received the title on his behalf from José Americo, president of Sao Paulo city council and Paulo Reis, a member of the city council.

FIFA Executive Committee Member Marco Polo Del Nero, José Maria Marin, Deputy Vicente Candido, as well as LOC CEO Ricardo Trade were also in attendance.

“The FIFA President would have really loved to be with you today,” said Valcke. “It is a great honour for him to receive this recognition of his work on the day that he is celebrating his 15th anniversary as FIFA President.

“He is looking forward to coming back in 12 months when Sao Paulo will not only host the FIFA World Cup but the 64th FIFA Congress, when 209 countries from the entire football family will gather here in Brazil.

“We would like to thank Brazil, but Sao Paulo in particular, for their commitment and support in staging a fantastic FIFA World Cup next year. I am sure Sao Paulo will be an example for the other cities.”
