Blatter sends best wishes to Mandela

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has written to his “dear friend” Nelson Mandela after the former South Africa president was allowed to leave hospital.

Mandela, often fondly referred to as ‘Madiba’, was admitted to hospital on Saturday morning for medical treatment on an abdominal problem. He is said to be recovering well and has now returned home.

Blatter said: “I was very relieved to learn that you are now back in the comfort of your own home and are recovering well following your recent admission to hospital.

“Please accept my very best wishes for a full recovery in the company of your loved ones. As you will remember, the key message of the wonderful World Cup in South Africa was to celebrate Africa’s humanity and there is no greater symbol and example of that humanity than you, Madiba.”
