Top-quality football turf
Artificial turf has been around for decades, but a real alternative to natural grass that set universal standards and met the highest requirements of the game was lacking. With this in mind, in 2001 world football’s governing body launched the FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf to ensure the quality of football turf pitches.
Today, this concept is an international industry standard, and thanks to the certification and licensing programme, it guarantees the highest quality and maximum comfort based on uniform criteria. The “FIFA RECOMMENDED” mark guarantees that quality standards have been met, and that regular checks and laboratory and field tests will be conducted by independent test institutes approved by FIFA.
Continuously developing quality
These measures ensure that high-quality football turf is recognised as the best alternative to natural grass. In a natural progression, FIFA-certified football turf pitches were included in the Laws of the Game in 2004, and since then have been approved to stage international matches.
World football’s governing body continued to promote the innovative development of football turf standards by introducing the FIFA Preferred Producer initiative in 2009, which offers purchasers a comprehensive quality guarantee covering everything from planning to installation and regular maintenance.
